Cycling East Sussex is dedicated to promoting cycling as a healthy and fun method of transport and leisure. The site is mainly focussed on cycling in the East Sussex area but you will find us going further afield sometimes and you'll soon find a growing wealth of information to interest you here whether you cycle in Sussex or are coming to visit (you are bringing your bike aren't you?)
Local cycling clubs, cycling organisations and bike shops are particularly welcome to freely promote their activities and events in the Event Calendar and Forum and we're looking forward to establishing a healthy cycling community here at Cycling East Sussex. So come on in and see what's here and then "Get out and ride". |

The Cuckoo Trail is a 14 mile paved route that runs from Hampden Park in Eastbourne to Heathfield, passing through Polegate, Hailsham, Hellingly and Horam. There are a few road crossings and brief sections on-road but these tend to be quiet back roads so its an ideal ride for families with younger children who might be nervous of riding on the road. |

I've been playing around over at Bikely - this is a really cool web site that lets cyclists draw out cycle routes on a Google Map and share them with others. Simply brilliant! The site is at www.bikely.com
Take a look at this thread in the forum and post your cycle routes.

Bewl Water is the South East's largest lake in a valley surrounded by the Wealden hills. There are 12.5 miles of track around the lake offering an engaging ride on a mixture of gravel, mud tracks and country lanes with some fantastic views across the water.

We took the tandem over to Rye today to take part in The Romney Marsh Charity Ride. Organised by Rye Coastguard, this event is a small friendly ride that covers 30 miles around the marshland north of Rye and follows a flat and well thought out route with pit stops and route guides.
They even make a cup of tea for the riders at the finish and I had a chat with the event organiser, David Dunlop after the ride and found out about the event's history...

 View from Fairlight
We wanted to get over to Rye for a ride on the tandem but thought that it might be a bit ambitious to try to ride over there and back. I already knew that Southern Trains has a policy where bicycles are carried free of charge during off-peak times, but what would they say to a tandem?
A ‘phone call later and it looked like the tandem was going to be fine but I still had this nagging doubt that we’d buy tickets, get on the platform and be told “You can’t bring that thing on!”
Only one way to find out for sure…

Depending on how far you're planning to ride there are a few things that you should take along. For a short spin you really just need to take you and your bike but if you're going further than a few miles then you might want to consider the following items:
